Landmark (POI) Management

Mobile device users are constantly interacting with their environment, comprised of a variety of Points of Interest (POIs) that a person or organization might find interesting, fun or significant to a task. They might be a single waypoint on a map, a building, or an entire zip code. The ability to manage the interaction between users (or assets) and their environment, by defining landmarks on an electronic map, is the critical element of location management. Where a mobile device is in proximity to a landmark governs whether an action occurs−a communication is made or information is shared.

The ZOS platform allows the user to create a variety of types of landmarks relevant for diverse location use cases. Landmarks can be a single point on a map, an area defined by a circle or polygon, or a place (navigation point) to which mobile users are routed on their mobile mapping system.

With the capability to assign landmarks to groups and subgroups, the platform aids enterprise users that need to manage large and diverse lists of landmarks. Defining virtual boundaries, called geo-fences, or selecting points on the map allows users to target mobile devices in a particular area to receive information or trigger other location-based actions when included within a location event.
